DATA SCIENTIST

 

Federal Government Analytics, AI & Fraud Detection Support

Remote (U.S.-Based) | Full-Time

Position Overview

Porta Strategies is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to support a federal government client focused on advanced analytics, fraud detection, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and investigative support activities.

The successful candidate will work with large and complex datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, potential fraud indicators, and emerging risks. This role requires expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, natural language processing (NLP), data visualization, and communicating technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy advanced statistical and machine learning models.
  • Develop supervised and unsupervised analytical solutions to identify fraud, improper payments, anomalies, and program risks.
  • Analyze large structured and unstructured datasets using modern analytical techniques.
  • Apply Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI methodologies to extract insights from complex text-based data.
  • Develop dashboards, visualizations, and executive-level reporting products.
  • Collaborate with investigators, auditors, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to support analytical objectives.
  • Present findings and recommendations to technical and executive audiences.
  • Develop and maintain documentation supporting analytical methodologies and model development.
  • Support continuous improvement of existing analytical tools, models, and processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, Ph.D., or equivalent experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Machine Learning, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing predictive analytics, machine learning models, and advanced statistical solutions.
  • Strong experience with:
  • Python
  • Pandas
  • SQL
  • Regression and classification techniques
  • Clustering and anomaly detection
  • Machine learning model development
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing NLP solutions.
  • Experience presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working within cloud-based analytics environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government programs.
  • Experience supporting fraud detection, oversight, investigative, audit, compliance, or regulatory initiatives.
  • Experience with LLMs and Generative AI technologies.
  • Experience developing dashboards and visualizations using Power BI or similar tools.
  • Experience identifying and analyzing financial anomalies, risks, or suspicious activity.
  • Experience working with modern AI and machine learning deployment frameworks.

Citizenship & Security Requirements
