Porta Strategies Welcomes Avanti Yamamoto as Advisor for Global Education Initiatives

Washington, DC – June 17, 2026–  Porta Strategies is pleased to announce that Avanti K. Yamamoto, M.Ed., NBCT has joined the firm as an Advisor for Global Education Initiatives.

Avanti Yamamoto is an award-winning educator, instructional leader, and nationally recognized advocate for teacher excellence. She currently serves as a school administrator in Virginia, where she leads efforts focused on instructional improvement, cultivating strong school culture, and advancing student belonging.

In 2025, Avanti was named Virginia Teacher of the Year and selected as a participant in the Council of Chief State School Officers National Teacher of the Year Program, recognizing her leadership and impact at both the state and national levels. Prior to her role in administration, she spent more than a decade teaching secondary mathematics and served as Mathematics Department Leader within the public school system in Virginia.

Avanti is a National Board Certified Teacher in Adolescence and Young Adulthood Mathematics and holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from James Madison University. She has contributed to state and national education policy conversations, including providing testimony before the Virginia Senate, participating in discussions on Capitol Hill, and mentoring educators across the Commonwealth.

A frequent speaker at state, national, and international conferences, Avanti focuses on instructional leadership, teacher development, student belonging, and mathematics education. Her work is grounded in a commitment to ensuring every student has access to high-quality learning and feels supported to succeed.
